Upon the application of the Turkish Handball Federation, the hosting rights for the Women's and Men's Beach Handball European Championships, as well as the U17 Women's and Men's Beach Handball European Championships, have been awarded to Alanya. Alanya, which began its handball journey with street handball in 1995, will once again host a major handball event after 30 years.
According to the decision made by the European Handball Federation (EHF) Executive Committee on July 19, the EHF Beach Handball EURO 2025 for women and men will be held in Alanya from July 8 to 13, 2025, while the EHF U17 Beach Handball EURO 2025 will take place from July 3 to 6, 2025. These championships will be the largest and most comprehensive events ever held in Turkey to date. During the two weeks, a total of 64 teams from 19 European countries, as well as over a thousand handball players, will compete in Alanya for medals.
Alanya, which began its handball journey with street handball under the leadership of National Team Player and Coach Ramazan Demirci in 1995, will host a major organization 30 years later.
Osman Tarık Özçelik, the Mayor of Alanya, stated that handball is a sport where athletes showcase their physical abilities and spectators enjoy their time. "We believe in the unifying power of sports and, as a municipality, we continue to support and promote all sports. We are happy to host another important event. Increasing sports activities that encourage our youth to engage in sports and guide them towards a healthy and active lifestyle is one of our primary goals," he said.

Uğur Kılıç, President of the Turkish Handball Federation, expressed his pleasure at Alanya hosting the top-level beach handball event in Europe. "Last year, we hosted the EHF EBT finals, the largest team-based beach handball organization, in Antalya. We are seeing the results of our projects and efforts. First, we secured the hosting of the EHF Women’s EURO 26 in Antalya. Now, we have brought EURO 25 to Alanya. We aim to be one of the leading countries in beach handball. We need to utilize the beauties and advantages of our country, and beach handball is one of these advantages. National and international tournaments are crucial for countries to better understand each other and to be more tolerant. We maintain strong relationships for this purpose and continue our efforts to host international championships in our country," he said.
For the EHF Beach Handball EURO 2025 Women’s Championship, the host country Turkey will be joined by European teams qualified from the 2024 World Championship: Germany, Netherlands, Spain, Portugal, Norway, Greece, and Denmark; and teams qualified from the 2024 Beach Handball Championship: Hungary, France, Sweden, Ukraine, Croatia, Slovakia, Poland, and Bulgaria. For the Men's Championship, besides the host Turkey, the teams qualified from the 2024 World Championship are: Hungary, Germany, Denmark, Portugal, Spain, and Croatia; and the teams qualified from the 2024 European Championship are: Poland, Sweden, France, Norway, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Italy, Czech Republic, and Malta.
